I received the following lovely fic:
In the Arms of the Enemy
Summary: He was sick and dying, but the hope on the horizon kept him fighting on. (Small warning: it features vomiting as an effect of poisoning, if that's not your thing. But it's kept short.)
It's about the Roman Quaestor Claudius Malosinus' stay in the Gauls' village during "Asterix in Switzerland". Malosinus is one of the few canonically decent Romans, who is poisoned by one of the canonically scummiest characters, Garovirus - whom we see wearing several rings with secret compartments for storing poison. And through the dialogue it's strongly implied he's poisoned several other people. In a, perhaps, surprisingly dark turn Panoramix straight up tells Asterix "if you don't manage to find the ingredients for the antidote, Malosinus will die".
I wrote Hate the Sin, Love the Sinner
Summary: Gino Bartali visits his one-time rival's tomb and feels a bit introspective. Rated G and gen (though with references to a RL scandal where Coppi left his wife because he fell in love with another, married, woman. It was a huge scandal in post-war Italy and their subsequent marriage was never acknowledged in Italy.)
This is Cycling RPF, where I get to explore Gino Bartali's thoughts and feelings on his relationship/rivalry with Fausto Coppi. It's one of cycling's near-mythical rivalries and they are both two of the sport's biggest stars ever, even though they were active during the 1930's-50's.
So no slash, just lots of introspection, a bit of melancholia and a dash of religious feelings (for good measure. Bartali was after all called "Gino the Pious"...)
